Grand Opening Party!

Welcome to the first blog post of Succulence, a life and garden store in Bernal Heights, San Francisco. Succulence is cultivated collectively by Frauke Swoboda, Daniel Palmacci, Amy Shelf and Ken Shelf.

We are finally having our Grand Opening Party this Saturday, February 13th, 2010 between 4pm and 8pm. The party is open to all (with no admission, of course), and we’d like for all of you to join us in celebrating what we think is quite a special store! We will have snacks (including hints of our Succulence brand food items such as jams and pickles, for sale soon), drinks and live music with local music hero Ralph Carney, as we celebrate all things succulent.

All weekend, which happens to be both Valentine’s Day and President’s day weekends, we will be offering 10% off all items in the store. If you are looking to get something for your sweetie (or get an early jump in your spring gardening needs) , look no further than a delicious bit of wooden home ware from Tiny Sparks Design, such as one of these key holders, or a coat rack, or clock. Or if pottery is your thing, try something from acclaimed ceramics artist, Diana Fayt whose whimsical nature-inspired designs are guaranteed to brighten any home. Perhaps, you or your lover loves Chai? Try a body warming bag of Morning Glory Chai perfect for these chilly San Francisco days. We are also very happy to report that we are the first company in North America to offer VegDesign from Logical Space Design in Roma Italia. Their beautiful flora inspired metal art goes hand in hand with all of your garden and household artist flourishes. We also have a wonderful collection of vintage kitchen items to add to your collection.

In the garden, we are covered in plants! Take a look here at a few photos from mid-January, and be prepared to be overwhelmed with our gorgeous selection of succulents. And if vertical gardening is your thing, well…it’s our thing, too! We have been creating luscious living frames, as well as smaller tableaus and a variety of found art planters as well, such as this wonderful time card holder! We also have planters, old and new, including locally made Urban Farm Girl planters, designed with succulents in mind.

Our philosophy at Succulence, and our goal, is to provide supplies for a succulent life, which to us means all things succulent, from the plants which we surround ourselves with, to the art which fills us with joy, to the kitchen supplies where we nourish our bodies as well as our souls. Our time on earth is brief, let's fill it to the brim with succulence.

Please come and celebrate with us, or if you cannot make it, we hope to see you soon.
